Functional Training Course

This course is designed to be adapted for professionals involved in the health and fitness industry including Physiotherapists, Personal Trainers, Gym Instructors, Sports Therapists, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and Physical Education Instructors.

Overview of the course

Functional training has become a popular topic within the fitness and rehab industry… often somewhat over-quoted and miss-understood. “Functional” of course is just a word, and it is commonly being applied to what is quite a wide concept. In order to design functional training programmes you will learn how the body operates expansively in 3 planes of motion, how to train in relation to gravity and ground reaction forces, how to appropriately incorporate balance and proprioceptive training, how to work with mass and momentum, how to successfully load and unload the body, how to make this reactive and sub-consciously driven, and how to devise a structured training pathway. And also have some fun…

By the end of the course the participants should understand

  • The theory behind functional movement criteria and training concepts
  • The benefits of functional training in injury prevention and treatment
  • Functional training for performance
  • The structure and progression of a programme
  • The majority of course time will be spent practicing exercise pathways and sequences
  • Concepts on mobility, stability, balance, sequencing, strength, speed and power
  • And demonstrating how this aspect of training fits in with other methods and techniques.

There is a strong practical element and a comprehensive manual is included with the course.
